Tarta de Santiago is a typical delicacy of the northern Spanish region of Galicia. This deliciously moist almond cake is named after Santiago ( Saint James) , the patron Saint of Spain. The cake's origin is thought to be brought to Galicia by a pilgrim to Santiago de Compostela. Now an iconic culinary product of Spanish cuisine, Tarta de Santiago is wonderfully moist, subtley sweet and dusted with powdered sugar decorated with the cross of St James. This hand-made version is rich, dense and composed of a flavoursome pastry filled with the finest ground almonds; serving as the perfect tea-time treat paired with a café con leche (milky coffee).
Almond (nuts) filling: ground almond, sugar, egg and muscatel. Pastry base: wheat flour (gluten), butter (milk), egg, sugar and salt.
