This comforting venison mince recipe is a simple way to make the most of richly flavoured game. Venison mince is browned before being slowly simmered with onion, carrot, celery, beef stock, tomato purée and Worcestershire sauce until the mixture becomes glossy and rich.

Served generously over crisp toast, it's an easy yet satisfying dish for colder days. The same minced venison mixture is also versatile enough to serve with a baked potato or creamy mashed potato, or even use as a filling for an indulgent cheese toastie.

The recipe serves 2–3 but is easily doubled, making it a useful option for a comforting lunch or informal supper.
