Eating healthily and storing food properly

Generally in our lives, we need to do certain things and live in a certain way in order to be healthy and happy.

This is a good mantra by which to live life generally. But there are times when we need to take extra special care of ourselves and ensure that the right things are going into our body.

With the current health situation we are finding ourselves in, making sure we are eating healthily can help give our bodies a better chance of staying in a good shape. This means carefully picking and choosing the food we eat is an important thing to do.

As a supplier of top quality produce from around the world, we wanted to provide a few tips as to what are good things to try in the current climate and what is the best way of storing this food.

Fish dishes are both a healthy and delicious option come dinner time. High in nutrients and proteins, fish can be a great addition to your diet.

At Fine Food Specialist, we have a host of fresh fish products that are particularly popular this time of year. We recommend our selection of supremes, including tunacodsalmon and swordfish. These cuts of fresh fish are ideal for providing the basis for delicious meals that are equally healthy and tasty.

Other classic fish dishes can be created with mackerelsea bass and seabream. And if you’re looking for a fish dish differing from the norm, take a look at our hiramasa kingfish. With a rich, subtly sweet flavour, this is a great way to get something different into your diet.

If you’re looking for a new seafood dish, why not try Drogo’s sashimi platter?

Meat dishes are a favourite for many people around the world. Cuts of meat that are truly luxurious in flavour, low in fat and able to provide a magnificent taste experience can be good for both the body and the mind.

Veal is renowned for its wonderful flavour, and we recommend these veal cutlets and t-bone options.

If you’re a beef fan, take a look at our Hereford Cote de Boeuf and Hereford Fillet Steaks. Easy to pan fry or cook on the BBQ, these meat options can take your experience to new levels of enjoyment.

Lamb enthusiasts will love our Milk fed Pyrenees lamb shoulders and culottes, while fans of birds and poultry can try our oven ready yellow leg chicken, or even our oven ready quails and guinea fowl

Veritable Vegetables

Vegetables are an obvious choice when it comes to healthy living, but it’s important to select varieties that are currently in season.

Jersey Royals are a solid choice for a number of meals, while wild garlic is a great flavouring option.

Asparagus is a delicious and healthy vegetable, and if you want to try it in new forms we recommend this white asparagus and wild asparagus.

There’s a host of other green vegetable options available for you to try. These are rarely found in the local supermarket, but you can open culinary tastes up to new fresh vegetables from around the world with ease with Fine Food Specialist.

Why not try healthy Calcot Onions? Or Romanesco? These are similar to other vegetables like spring onions and cabbages, but have a distinctive and different flavour that will bring a unique feeling to dinner time.

So diverse is the selection of items we have at Fine Food Specialist that you are bound to find something that you’ve not tried before when browsing through our range.

Why not give a try to mushrooms like shimejimorelsking oyster or porcinis? All are delicious and can be used with a range of meals, including the options in this guide to Drgo’s Porcini Mushroom recipes. We also have exotic mushroom options like enoki and pied de mouton.

Keeping food fresh

If you want to enjoy your ingredients for longer, it’s important that you know how to keep food fresh and safe to eat.

Everything we deliver will arrive with you either chilled or frozen depending on the best conditions for the specific product. These products will be delivered in thermostat packaging on ice.

Meat products are best stored in the fridge for up to four days from their arrival, and can also be frozen to save them for a later date. The same applies for fish, though generally these should be consumed within three days of arrival.

These products generally should be eaten as soon as possible however for maximum freshness.

If you have questions about any of our products, you can also get in touch with the team.
